Q&A with the Artist: Meet Vicky Reddish

Meet Vicky Reddish

Hi there!  I thought, instead of a standard “About Me” page, I would write an interview-style blog with some fun questions mixed in!

Enneagram Number: 9w1 - Yes, I really believe I can make my idealized, peaceful world a reality.

Where do you live? Nashville!  More specifically, Wedgewood Houston - we love the location and this vibrant, artsy community so much.

What kind of art do you create? I create abstract art!  I tend to start with specific colors in mind and then just kind of see what happens when I interact with the canvas.  I enjoy creating textures to build interest.

What inspires you? So many things inspire me!  I always am inspired by fun colors, architecture, people I meet and nature. I strive to capture emotions and energy in my work through my brushstrokes and mark making.

What is your intention? In life, my intention is to create and inspire beauty in myself and others.

Where is your studio? I have created a little studio in the spare bedroom of our home!  It’s small, but it does the job and it is so nice to have space that is easy to access to create anytime.

Who are some of your favorite artists? I love art so there are so many artists I love. Here are 5 I am crushing on right now:

  1. Hannah Lane

  2. Wendy McWilliams

  3. Sarah Ella Cole

  4. Lindsey McCord

  5. Morgan Gray

Hobbies outside of painting? I enjoy reading and I absolutely love plants! I would be a more avid plant collector, but my husband limits my plant purchases...haha.

Celebrity crush? Listen, I love celebrities!  Some of them include Channing Tatum, Harry Styles, and Taylor Swift.

Morning person or night owl? Definitely a morning person. I feel my best in the mornings, and I love to go to bed early.

What colors do you wear most often? Tan, Black and Green - while I LOVE color, I tend to stick to a pretty neutral closet with small pops of color for interest.

What would you do if you won $10 million dollars? Buy a house near the beach, buy a new car, buy a home for our parents, retire and invest the rest!

What is your favorite thing about being an artist? Creating!  I love experimenting and playing in the studio. Each piece tells a story, and I love seeing it develop with each stroke of the brush or mark.

Tell me you are an artist without telling me you are an artist... Almost every piece of clothing I own has paint on it somewhere.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I had trouble deciding...haha...I wanted to be a teacher, a pediatric nurse, an artist and a singer.

You live in a crayon box...which color would you be? Vivid Tangerine

Where do you want to go with your art career? What are your goals? To the top! In all seriousness, my dream is for it to be a sustainable career that I can continue to enjoy in retirement and essentially paint for the rest of my life. I have lots of smaller goals to hit along the way but find it so fulfilling getting to create art and see it resonate with collectors.

How do you define success? For me, success is living a life that I love and choosing gratitude in each day.

What view would you most like to have out of your window? Kauai - Give the the lush greens against the backdrop of the ocean waves and it is truly paradise.

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve found something that you lost? This is a good story! I had a ring that meant a lot to me that I noticed when I got to work one day that the main diamond had fallen out.  I searched everywhere for it and had almost determined it was gone forever. My husband suggested I use a headlamp and search outside.  I retraced my steps, starting with the coffee shop I had visited that morning.  I looked all over and got in my car to leave.  I decided to look one more time and when I stepped out of my car, I saw a glimmer in the street.  I walked up, and seriously...there was my diamond right in the middle of the street at 8 PM at night after being there all day.  I couldn’t believe it and still think it was a miracle!

Favorite color? All of them! :)

It’s your turn. I would love to learn more about you!  Shoot me an email and tell me about yourself (or respond in the comments).
