Behind the Collection: The Story of “Juicy” and the Role of Oranges in Art

When I first conceptualized the Juicy collection, I knew it needed to capture both the vibrancy of my Southern roots and the energy of color. Juicy features acrylic paintings of oranges set against simple, one-color backgrounds, allowing the fruit’s natural brightness and beauty to stand out. Inspired by the warmth of fall in Tennessee, this series aims to bring joy and vitality into any room.

Why Oranges?

Oranges, as a motif, have a rich history in art and culture. They represent prosperity, joy, and energy across different eras and regions. In art history, oranges often symbolize abundance and luxury. During the Renaissance, for instance, oranges were frequently depicted in still lifes to represent wealth and the exotic, as they were both rare and expensive at the time.

In Juicy, I wanted to capture a similar sense of brightness and positivity. These paintings remind viewers of sunlit orchards and the sense of renewal that fresh fruit can bring. By using a minimalist backdrop, each piece places the orange in focus, encouraging a connection with its warmth and natural beauty.

I did include a tangerine and apple - because they are just as lovely and warm.

The Power of Color in “Juicy”

Color is central to Juicy, both in the rich orange of the fruit and the vibrant backgrounds. Color psychology tells us that oranges and yellows can energize a room, creating a space that feels welcoming and lively. For me, color has always been more than an aesthetic choice; it’s an emotional experience.

The backgrounds in this collection each have a distinct feel. Some are calming blues that contrast beautifully with the orange, while others are bright greens and yellows that heighten the citrus energy. Each choice aims to make Juicy a transformative element for a room, whether you’re looking for a bold focal point or a subtle uplift.

Juicy: More Than a Collection

My hope is that Juicy not only brings color and warmth to a space but also celebrates the beauty in everyday things. These oranges embody my artistic journey, rooted in my love for the South, my connection to color, and my desire to bring art that feels alive into homes.

Through this collection, I invite viewers to experience not just the visual appeal of these pieces but the joy and abundance that they represent. Thank you for joining me in exploring the vibrant world of Juicy.
